Handmade raku cup I Medium - Visby Ceramics I Dark Grey
At Rabens Saloner we love beautiful ceramics and one of our favourite ceramic artists is Danish Dorte Visby. Her characteristic raku glace has a glare that adds personality and edge to the table and all her ceramics are made by hand.
This medium handmade raku cup has a round shape. The inside of the cup is white glazed and characterised by the crackling in the glaze from the raku burning. On the outside the cup is raw and unglazed with a metallic sheen.
"Raku is a technique that is practised in many ways. I burn raku at the temperature of 1130ĖC, often in an electric oven. Glowing red, the items are taken out of the oven and into a barrel of sawdust and/or wrapped with straw. The characteristic of the Raku roasting takes place in the cooling barrel, where sawdust and straw ignite and uses available oxygen from clay and glaze for the combustion. This process is called reduction (reduced oxygen supply) and has influence of the colours of the glaze and clay. For obtaining colours and grades, I use different masses and glazes with different matte glossā. ā Dorte Visby
Like all other things made by hand, each ceramic product is unique and may vary slightly in colour, pattern and shape from the products pictured. That is the beauty of a handmade product and what makes your new ceramic cup unique.
